Frequently Asked Questions

  • Every trip is led by at least one licensed mental health professional. Some trips are co-hosted by experienced mentors or professionals in training. Before each trip you will have an intro call with your guides to ensure the trip is right for you. You can read more about your weekend’s guides on the “Our People” page.

  • We consider our trips “therapeutic” not “therapy.” While group sessions are held daily and guides are available for 1-1 conversations as needed, all guides operate as “mentors” due to state licensing constraints. This does not change the quality of care, but does currently effect our ability to bill through insurance companies. We are working towards collaborating with insurance companies to keep our trips affordable and accessible.

  • Safety is a top concern at Inward Adventures, physically and emotionally. While conditions are always changing in the outdoors, we take every precaution to ensure access to necessary medical care near campsites, provide adequate supervision during excursions and nights, and do a thorough evaluation of mental status before approving participants for trips. Feel free to ask your trip guides any safety concerns that may arise for your specific trip destination.

  • No problem! Our trips range from camping trips in the National Parks to high-end house rentals and boutique hotels. We have trips for every level of adventurer. Each trip will have a description of the accommodations and physical intensity of activities required. Feel free to pick a trip that best suits your needs and comfort level.

  • Yes and no. Yes, you can bring your phone on the trip, but no, you will not always have access to it. We ask that phones get stored with trip guides during excursions, group sessions, and evening socialization. You will have access to your phones as needed to check in with friends or family intermittently throughout the day.

  • New friends! You are welcome to join a trip with pre-existing friends, but we highly encourage being open-minded to establishing new relationship with your fellow group mates. If you are not interested in talking to new people, making new friends, or learning from others, these trips may not be the best choice for you. We curate each group thoughtfully, to pair people we think will get along and share things in common. We have yet to have any groups fail to get along!

  • We hope! Each group includes 3-6 months of continued monthly check-in calls with one of your guides. While these are optional, they are highly recommended. Many of our groups choose to travel together again 6-12 months after their first adventure.

  • Each group will provide you with a detailed packing list tailored to your trip. Typically you are required to bring appropriate clothing and shoes, personal items like toiletries and sun protection, and a small backpack for day-long adventures. Most importantly - don’t forget to bring an open mind and a positive attitude!
